Vitamin D is one of the important vitamins which determines children’s organism homeostasis and bones health.
Its deficit in children under 36 months causes rackets, in elder children – osteomalacia.
Conditions caused with deficit of vitamin D:
- rackets;
- osteomalacia;
- osteoporosis;
- tumor;

Food rich in vitamin D:
- fatty species of oceanic fish
- milk and dairy
- eggs

Prevention:
- exclusive breast-feeding
- breast-feeding up to 2 years
- timely start of additional feeding
- eating food rich in Ca and vitamin D
- exposure to the sun
- exception from ration of caffeine-containing (carbonated) drinks, as they wash out Ca from the bones.
For the diagnostic purpose, it is the best to determine status of vitamin D (vit. D 25 – hydroxyvitamin)
