What does the test measure?

CRP is a protein produced by the liver in response to inflammation. Its level helps gauge the presence and severity of an inflammatory process.

Why is it ordered?

It is ordered to monitor infection and inflammatory disease and to assess the response to treatment.

How should I prepare?

No special preparation is needed.

How is the sample collected and stored?

A venous blood draw.

What does the result mean?

A raised CRP indicates inflammation or infection but does not pinpoint the cause. A fall over time suggests treatment is working.
