Allergology in Batumi

Comprehensive diagnosis of allergic diseases, identification of the causative allergens and treatment

Allergology covers the diagnosis, treatment and long-term management of allergic diseases and of diseases related to the immune system. Modern allergological investigations make it possible to identify the allergens causing the symptoms and to select treatment tailored to the patient.

Khozrevanidze Clinic works together with the Centre of Allergy and Immunology, which offers allergic patients comprehensive diagnosis and disease management in one place, in accordance with modern standards.

The allergist-immunologist Elene Kakabadze holds consultations at Khozrevanidze Clinic twice a month.

An allergist's consultation is recommended for symptoms associated with the airways, the skin, food, medicines, insect stings and other possible allergens.

Our services

Allergist-immunologist consultation
A detailed assessment of the patient's complaints, medical history, the character of the symptoms and the possible causative factors. On the basis of the data obtained, the necessary investigations are determined and an individual treatment plan is drawn up.

Diagnosis of allergic diseases
Modern allergological investigations are carried out taking into account the clinical condition and the suspected allergen. The diagnostic method is selected individually, in accordance with the patient's age, symptoms and general state of health.

In vivo diagnostics

Spirometry
The examination is used to assess the functional condition of the lungs and the patency of the airways. Spirometry is particularly important for the diagnosis and monitoring of bronchial asthma and other respiratory conditions.

Skin prick testing
The test makes it possible to assess the body's sensitivity to various allergens. During the test, small quantities of selected allergens are applied to the skin and the local reaction is assessed.

Intradermal testing
In accordance with the clinical indications, a small quantity of an allergen may be introduced intradermally and the body's reaction assessed. The test is carried out under the doctor's supervision.

In vitro diagnostics

Determination of specific IgE in blood serum
This laboratory test is used to assess the body's sensitivity to particular allergens.

Specific IgE may be determined against the following groups of allergens:

  • inhalant allergens;
  • epidermal allergens;
  • food allergens;
  • plant allergens;
  • occupational allergens;
  • drug allergens;
  • insect venom allergens.

The list and extent of the investigations are determined on the basis of the allergist-immunologist's consultation and the patient's clinical data.

Allergen-specific immunotherapy

In appropriately selected cases, allergen-specific immunotherapy – hyposensitisation – may be carried out. The aim of the treatment is to reduce the body's heightened sensitivity to a particular allergen gradually and to achieve better control of the symptoms of the disease.

Whether immunotherapy can be carried out, and its method and duration, are determined individually, taking into account the diagnostic investigations and the patient's state of health.

Our approach

The diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases is based on the combined assessment of the patient's complaints, medical history, clinical examination and the results of allergy tests. Where necessary, specialists in other fields are also involved in the treatment process.

A comprehensive approach helps to identify the factors causing the allergy, to control the symptoms and to improve the patient's quality of life.
