Endoscopy in Batumi
Diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive and respiratory systems
Endoscopy is a modern, less invasive method for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive and respiratory systems. The examination allows the doctor to assess the internal surface of the organs in detail, to take biopsy material where necessary and to carry out the appropriate therapeutic intervention.
During an endoscopic examination, hollow and tubular organs are inspected by means of special optical equipment. The image obtained helps the doctor to detect and assess inflammatory, ulcerative, polypoid, tumorous and other changes of the mucous membrane.
The clinic's endoscopy department is equipped with a modern Olympus video endoscopy system. The equipment's NBI mode – narrow band imaging – improves the visualisation of the mucous membrane and the vascular structures, which assists in detecting and accurately assessing suspicious, precancerous and early tumorous changes.
Our services
Doctor's consultation
Assessment of the patient's complaints, medical history and existing medical records. On the basis of the consultation, the appropriate examination is determined and the safe performance of the procedure is planned.
Diagnostic oesophagogastroduodenoscopy – gastroscopy
During the examination, the mucous membrane of the oesophagus, the stomach and the duodenum is inspected in detail. The procedure is used to detect inflammatory, ulcerative, erosive, tumorous and other changes.
Where necessary, biopsy material may be taken for subsequent cytological or histopathological examination, and Helicobacter pylori infection may also be determined.
Diagnostic colonoscopy
The endoscopic examination covers inspection of the rectum, the large intestine and the terminal part of the small intestine. Colonoscopy is used to detect inflammatory diseases, ulcers, the source of bleeding, polyps, tumorous and other changes.
Where necessary, biopsy material is taken during the examination for subsequent morphological assessment.
Bronchoscopy
The examination is used to assess the condition of the larynx, the trachea and the bronchi. The procedure is performed using the digital imaging modes available on the equipment and, where clinically indicated, biopsy material may also be taken.
Biopsy
During an endoscopic examination, a small tissue sample may be taken from a suspicious area. The material obtained is sent for cytological or histopathological examination, which helps to clarify the nature of the change detected.
Therapeutic endoscopy
Polypectomy
If a polyp is found then, in accordance with the clinical indications, it may be removed endoscopically without an external incision. The procedure is performed by means of a gastroscope or a colonoscope, using special snares and other endoscopic instruments.
Endoscopic removal of early tumour formations
In appropriately selected cases, superficial early tumour formations may be removed endoscopically. The method of intervention is determined taking into account the size, location and structure of the formation and the preliminary diagnostic data.
At the clinic, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures are performed in accordance with modern international protocols and the clinical indications.
Anaesthesia and patient comfort
In order to reduce the discomfort associated with the procedure as far as possible, endoscopic examinations are performed under analgesia and sedation – light sleep. Throughout the procedure the patient's condition is monitored by a highly qualified anaesthetic team.
The method of anaesthesia is selected individually, taking into account the patient's state of health, age, concomitant diseases and the type of procedure planned.
Our approach
The extent of the examination and of the therapeutic intervention is determined individually, on the basis of the patient's complaints, clinical condition and the results of the preliminary investigations. Modern video endoscopy equipment and an experienced medical team ensure that the examination is carried out in detail, that the changes detected are assessed and that further treatment is planned correctly.
